đĄ Your reimbursement reaches you by ACH, Wise, or wire. Use ACH for a US bank account, and Wise or a wire for a bank account outside the US. You choose your method in your payout settings.
It's the same money, whatever you're claiming
Whether you're being paid back for travel, supplies, food at an event, or materials for your project, the payout method works the same way. What matters is where your bank account is, not what you bought.
ACH, for US bank accounts
Use it for: paying into a US bank account. It's free.
How long: usually one to two business days after your report is approved.
What you'll need: your full name, email, bank name, routing number, and account number.
Wise, for most international payments
Use it for: a bank account outside the US. Wise is usually the cheapest way to get paid internationally, and there's no minimum amount.
How long: varies by country, typically a few business days after approval.
Good to know: Wise charges a currency-conversion fee, often around 3 to 5%. The final amount settles at the live exchange rate when the transfer goes through, so the exact figure isn't known in advance. If your currency isn't supported, you'll use a wire instead.
What you'll need: your name, email, and the local bank details for your country, such as an account number, IBAN, or the local equivalent.
Wire, for other international payments
Use it for: international payments, especially when Wise doesn't support your currency.
Minimum: wires have a $500 minimum.
How long: typically a few business days after approval.
What you'll need: your name (or company name), email and full address, your bank's SWIFT/BIC code, and your account number. Some countries also need a purpose-of-payment code, which HCB will prompt for.
If a wire can't be completed and is returned, the amount that comes back can be slightly different, because exchange rates move between sending and return.
How to choose your method
Add or update your payout method in your payout settings before your report is paid out. For the full reimbursement process, see how do I get reimbursed for a grant purchase.
