I got a refund on a grant purchase. Where does the money go?

Where a refund on a grant purchase ends up, including if the card has been closed.

💡 When a vendor refunds a grant purchase, the money goes back onto your grant card, so you can use it again within the grant's rules. If the card has been closed, the refund goes to the organization instead.

Refunds return to your grant card

Once the vendor initiates the refund, it goes back to the grant card it was paid from. You can spend it again, as long as it stays within your grant's merchant and balance rules.

If your grant card has been cancelled

If the grant card was closed or returned before the refund arrived, the money can't go back onto it, so it returns to the organization your grant was issued from. Reach out to the program that issued your grant if you were expecting that refund.

If you converted your grant to a reimbursement

If you'd already turned your grant into a reimbursement and a refund comes in afterward, contact the program that issued your grant so they can sort out where it should go.
